If you’re a first-time parent, you may be a little nervous about your at home lifestyle newborn photo session. I'm here to help you relax and have fun so you can cherish your precious memories for years to come.
Here are my top tips to help you and your little-one rock your newborn session, stress-free.
Let’s be honest: after you have a baby, the last thing you want to be doing is cleaning your house and preparing for me to come over. I’ve been there myself. I absolutely promise you - I will not be judging you on how your home looks. If you find yourself fretting, have a basket handy - then we can easily move items into the baskets, and you can find them again after the session.
Light the way
To get the most beautiful shots, natural light is key. Bright rooms with large or multiple windows make ideal shooting locations. We’ll have a chat before the session about which rooms you’d like to use and discuss timings to make sure we get the very best light.
Call the fashion police
For timeless images, I recommend neutral colours for your wardrobe choices. BUT I’m all for capturing your family authentically, so if you love bright colours and wild patterns - go for it! The most important thing is to be comfortable – I mean, come on, you’ve just created a tiny human, you deserve some comfort.
Who’s the boss?
Baby is utterly and completely in charge of the session, so we have to be prepared to go with their flow. It won’t all be calm, sleepy baby poses, there will be messy and fussy moments too, and that’s okay. I always allow plenty of time for newborn sessions so we can be flexible and relaxed, and let baby lead the session.
You can include any special family members in your newborn session: Mum, Dad, Big Sis, Big Bro, The Dog, The Cat, The Ferret. We’ll embrace the Calm and chaos together and capture those exquisite, fleeting moments that reflect your family’s magic.
Don’t stress yourself out by trying to make everything just so; trust me -with your little one in your arms, you’ll be absolutely perfect just as you are. Relax and enjoy the moment.
