I recently shared an overview of Shuttleworth and then delved into more details of the beautiful Swiss Gardens, so I think it's about time we explore the stunning Shuttleworth House, don't you?

There's something really special about a country house wedding. The history, the architecture, that feeling that your love story is joining countless others that have unfolded within the historic walls... And Shuttleworth House takes that to a whole other level.

A Stately Home with Character

Standing proudly in the heart of the Shuttleworth estate, Shuttleworth House is a gorgeous Jacobean-style country manor that offers exclusive use for your wedding day.

What I absolutely love about photographing weddings here is how the house balances grandeur with genuine warmth. Unlike some stately homes that can feel like walking through a museum (you know the ones – "don't touch anything!"), Shuttleworth House feels like somewhere you could actually live.

This immediate sense of comfort helps my couples relax, which is exactly what creates those honest, emotional photos that tell the story of your big day as it unfolds.

Versatile Spaces Throughout

One of my favourite things about Shuttleworth House (from both a photographer's and a couple's perspective) is the variety of beautiful rooms, each with their own character and atmosphere. This creates a natural flow to your big day, with spaces perfectly suited to each moment:

The Saloon

The wood-panelled Saloon, without a doubt, is the jewel in Shuttleworth's crown. With its gold-detailed ceiling, beautiful skylights and original glass chandeliers, it brings that wow-factor elegance without feeling stuffy. The Saloon's generous proportions create the perfect setting for your ceremony (accommodating up to 110 guests) or wedding breakfast (seating 80).

The Morning Room

The bright, airy Morning Room has gorgeous large windows that flood the space with natural light and give you spectacular views across the Shuttleworth parkland. It can seat up to 60 guests for your wedding breakfast or 70 guests for your ceremony. As a photographer who lives for beautiful natural light, this room is chef's kiss.

The Drawing Room

The Drawing Room is perfect for your evening reception. As night falls, the warm lighting against the elegant décor creates a really lovely intimate atmosphere. There's plenty of room for your band or DJ and a dance floor where you can party the night away. The Drawing Room can also host your wedding breakfast for up to 50 guests.

The Dining Room

For smaller, more intimate celebrations, the Dining Room at Shuttleworth House is a beautiful space for up to 20 guests. For larger weddings, this room makes a perfect quiet retreat where guests can enjoy tea and coffee or rest their dancing feet after busting out their best moves on the dancefloor.

The Billiard Room

With dual aspect views across the parkland, the Billiard Room offers another elegant option for your ceremony (up to 80 guests) or wedding breakfast (seating 70). The beautiful natural light coming in from multiple directions eliminates those harsh shadows and creates the even, flattering light that us photographers absolutely love (as will you when you receive your wedding photos!).

A Photographer's Perspective Of Shuttleworth House

As someone who lives to capture genuine connections and tell the story of your day in a documentary style, I have to tell you – Shuttleworth House is an amazing venue. Its elegant spaces seem to naturally inspire couples to slow down and be truly present together, creating those quiet glances and natural interactions that make for the most beautiful, heartfelt photos.

The architectural features of the house are so stunning, and the timeless quality of the architecture means your images won't look dated when you're celebrating your anniversary decades from now.

The Grand Staircase

The ornate wooden staircase is one of the house's most versatile and dramatic photography spots. Whether it's capturing that breathtaking 'first look' moment, a quiet pause alone before walking down the aisle, or some creative portraits using the beautiful lines and curves of the woodwork, this staircase is magic in photos.

Natural Light Throughout

I'm a bit obsessed with natural light (if you hadn't noticed!), so Shuttleworth House's huge windows make me ridiculously happy. Even on the greyest of English days, those large windows flood the rooms with soft, flattering light that's perfect for both portraits and all those candid moments throughout your day. This gorgeous natural light means I can predominantly document your celebration as it actually feels – no intrusive flash or artificial lighting.

Beautiful Details

Shuttleworth House offers countless opportunities to capture the small details that make your wedding unique to you. The beautiful architecture provides the perfect framing for your chosen decorations, flowers, and personal touches – all those little things you've likely spent months planning!

The Wider Estate

Having a chat with the amazing Shuttleworth team can open up the chance to capture moments in the lovely Swiss Gardens, amongst the historic aircraft in Hangar 3, or even position a vintage plane in front of the house for something really unique.

Every Season's Charm

Each season brings something special to Shuttleworth House.

Spring and summer weddings can take advantage of that beautiful natural light that streams through the windows, with the option to step outside onto the lawns for portraits with the house as your backdrop.

Autumn brings a warm, golden quality to the light that fills the rooms, making even the grandest spaces feel cosy and intimate. And in winter, when Shuttleworth House is dressed for the festive season, the warm interior lights create the most beautiful contrast with the crisp winter landscape beyond the windows.

I especially enjoy when couples allocate a bit of extra time for portraits, as we can explore different areas of the house and grounds, taking advantage of all its hidden gems. Even if rain makes an appearance, the indoor spaces provide countless beautiful backdrops for your photographs.

If you're considering Shuttleworth House for your wedding day, let's talk. With my calm, unobtrusive approach and focus on genuine emotions and connections, we can create a beautiful visual story of your wedding day in this stunning setting.
